Harraseeket Regatta 2025 – PYC is Dominant!

The PYC Junior Program Race Team traveled up the Bay to Harraseeket for the 2025 HYC Annual Regatta on Wednesday, 16 July. We entered 10 sailors in the Optimist Championship Division, 1 Opti Green Fleet sailor, and 4 420 teams, so in total we had 19 PYC Junior Program sailors competing!

Wednesday brought light winds. In fact, racing was delayed till after 12pm, but thankfully a light seabreeze filled in as the flood tide seemed stronger than normal.

Four races were sailed in the 420 fleet, and 3 races in the Optimist Championship. Opti Green fleet was the only group to race on Thursday, as fog stymied the race course, so the Green Fleet completed 8 races for the championship.

Overall, PYC results were stellar; in fact PYC won every fleet! In the 420 division Noelle Caola & Caroline Heersink dominated the fleet, posting a sizzling 2,1,1,1. Similarly, Suri Kelchner finished 1,1,2 in the championship fleet. In the Green Fleet, a new star was born. Wyatt Sowles was competing for the very first time in a regatta, and….. WOW. His scoresheet was amazing: 1,6,1,2,2,2,2,1 !!!

Other notables:

  • PYC had 6 of the top 10 places in the Optimist Championship fleet
  • PYC was 1,2,3 in Optimist Blue Fleet!!
  • In their first regatta ever, 420 Development Team members Nora and Alexandra showed incredible improvement, highlighted by a top-10 finish in one of the races.
